#DrunKnights in Tbilisi, Georgia

It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it. For months, Georgian multimedia journalist George Gogua and I had discussed photographing Tbilisi's bar scene. To be honest, that's not as frivolous as it sounds. When I lived in Yerevan, photographing bands like The Bambir and writing articles about bars such as the Calumet Ethnic Bar, much about the undercurrent in society revolving around a small but growing group of progressive youth could be garnered from conversations taking place until the early hours of the morning. Georgia would be no different.

Hedayah / Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Communications Expo and Hackathon

Security was higher than at most Hedayah and Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) events I’ve attended, but perhaps with good reason. Following the murder of an American teacher at an Abu Dhabi shopping mall (as well as a foiled plot to kill another), it was understandable that metal detectors were installed on two levels at the Hilton Capital Grand where last week’s Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Communications Expo was held.
